Brad Ragan Inc. reported a net loss of $74,000, equal to 3 cents per share, on revenues of $55.9 million in the first quarter, compared with year-earlier net income of $47,000, or 2 cents per share, on revenue of $52.4 million. The Charlotte, N.C.-based producer of retreaded tires for off-highway vehicles operates outlets in the Roanoke Valley.

Hanover Direct Inc., Weehawken, N.J., mail-order merchant operating Domestications and Tweeds telemarketing and fulfillment centers in Botetourt and Roanoke counties, reported a first-quarter net loss of $4.9 million, equal to 5 cents per share, on revenues of $176.6 million, compared with year-earlier net income of $3.1 million, or 4 cents per share, on revenues of $179.2 million. The company said the loss reflected costs of opening the textiles distribution center in Roanoke and of duplication from running other centers until the new facility is up and running.
