The amount paid by the Nashville, Tenn.-based prison firm for the extension was not disclosed. The company is still waiting for details from the state on contracts to house Virginia prisoners in private facilities.
CCA obtained its original option on a farm tract two miles east of Wytheville late last year. The announcement of its plan to build a 1,500-bed prison in Wythe County has met opposition from a group of citizens, who have organized Citizens Against the Prison to fight location of the facility in this area.
