BARBOUR, Joseph Eleck Jr., 62, of Roanoke, died Thursday, May 11, 1995. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. Barbour Sr. and Bertha G. Barbour; his brother, Frank S. Barbour; sister, Elizabeth Josephine Maughan. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Barbour; children, April Barbour, Josephine Barbour, Ruth Ann Barbour, Rachel Barbour, all of Roanoke, Gloria and husband, Harold Donathan, Shawsville, Herman Cupp Jr., Fincastle, Terry Cupp, Roanoke ; sisters, Corene and husband, Bill Hartman, Salem, Lorene and husband, Paul Markham, Roanoke; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. BROWN, Mrs. Marie Allara, 89, of Marion, died Thursday, May 11, 1995, in Richmond. She was the widow of Emmett E. Brown. She was formerly of Matewan, W.Va. and Marion, Va. Her husband, Emmett E. Brown was former owner of B & C Oil Company of Matewan, W.Va. She was a member of the Eastern Star Calista Boyd Chapter 104 in Matewan, W.Va. and a member of the Matewan United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank M. Allara and Jack M. Allara and one sister, Elizabeth Ross. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Betty Finley of Richmond, Mrs. Ernestine Price of Carlisle, Pa., and Mrs. Linda Stephenson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. Josephine Hope of Matewan, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 14, 1995, at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, W.Va. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, Mari on.

BRYANT, Gladys Whitesell, (``Tooty""), 73, of Buena Vista, died Thursday, May 11, 1995 in Buena Vista. She was born in Buena Vista February 5, 1922, the daughter of the late James P. and Eda Floyd Whitesell and the widow of Harold P. Bryant. Surviving are six nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lomax Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Chip Pendleton. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. DILLON, Ellen Holland, 68, of Route 5, Rocky Mount, died Thursday, May 11, 1995, in a local nursing home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Taz Maylon Dillon and a son, Larry Eugene Dillon. Surviving are one son, Tommy Franklin Dillon of the home; four brothers, Silas Lester Holland, Rocky Mount, Charlie O. Holland, Glade Hill, John Peter Holland, Saudi Arabia, Russell Holley, Rocky Mount; a very special friend, Kimberly Gibson, Callaway. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11 a.m. Saturday with Elder W. Lane Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. HAHN, Annie Elizabeth, (``Ann""), 80, of Salem, died Thursday, May 11, 1995 in a Salem hospital. She is survived by three sons, Theodore Harmon Hauser, Salem, Benjamin Clay Hauser, Springfield, Randy Ray Hauser, Henrietta, N.Y.; one daughter, Brenda Ann Edwards, Vacaville, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 1995, at 10 a.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Sadler officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. HERMANSON, Beulah Janney, 88, of Danville, died Wednesday, May 10, 1995, in Tacoma, Washington. She had been in declining health for the past six months. Mrs. Hermanson was a native of Christiansburg, born April 12, 1907. She was the daughter of the late Laudy Janney and Lurindia Hollins Janney. She married Roy Arthur Hermanson, who died March 29,1985. She had moved to Tacoma, Washington to live with her son 18 months ago. Mrs. Hermanson was a member of the Westover Hills United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Randy Grice, Tacoma, Wash., Billy Grice, Salem; and a daughter, Betty Grice, Floyd. Two sisters, Shan Hawkins, Kingsport, Tenn. and Clara McDevitt, Danville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Swicegood Chapel by the Rev. James Grogan. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday night from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times at the home of her sister, Clara McDevitt, 4011 Westover Drive, Danville. HILL, James M., 72, of Pilot, died suddenly, Wednesday, May 10, 1995, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea and is survived by his wife, Mary E. Hill; one son, James M. Hill of Alaska; a daughter, Frances Tornese of New Jersey; four grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Hill, Lowell Hill, both of Ohio; a sister, Freda Creamens, Florida. The body will be cremated and a family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Richardson-Horne in Christiansburg.

HOLDREN, Charles E., (``Chuck''), 61, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, May 10, 1995, in a local hospital. Surviving are his mother, Myrtle E. Holdren, Roanoke; two sons, Charles Michael Holdren, Los Angeles Calif., Mark Edward Holdren, Newport, Del; two grandchildren, Alicia Holdren and Mark Adam Holdren; one brother, Billy Eugene Holdren, Florida; sister, Helen Louise Hudson, Roanoke. HOWELL, Mildred Pace, 83, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis J. Howell. Mrs. Howell received her teaching certificate from Madison College in 1930 and taught in Botetourt County Schools at Lithia, Indian Rock and Buchanan. She taught third grade for 24 years at Highland Park Elementary in Roanoke City before retiring in 1974. She was member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Angelus Bible Class. Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law, Robert N. Howell, George E. and Billie Dawn Howell, all of Roanoke; grandsons, William Scott Howell, George Jason Howell, Christopher Ross Howell; sister, Emily Barley, Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews including Rita Jo Williamson, Roanoke and James T. Barley, Jr., Buchanan. The family would like to acknowledge Oncology and Hematology Associates of Southwest Virginia for their care and concern. Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Saturday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel by the Rev. M. Dennis Herman and Dr. Harry Y. Gamble. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. KEMP, Mrs. Elaine Virginia Fisher, 67, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, May 10, 1995. She was born on May 12, 1927, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Frank Leonard Fisher and Lillie Bell (Wheeler) Fisher. Mrs. Kemp was formerly employed by Planters Bank and Trust, Staunton, and recently employed by Holts China and Gift Store, Staunton. She was a member of the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Kemp; a son, Bruce E. Ralston, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; three brothers, John F. Fisher, Ft. Defiance , James E. Fisher, Mt. Airy, N.C., Lewis H. Fisher, Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren, Steven Michael Ralston, Eric Lee Ralston, both of Danbury, Conn., Angela Faye Ralston, Alyssa Joy Ralston, Amber Elaine Ralston, all of Knoxville, Tenn.; a great-grandchild, Eric Lee Ralston, Jr., Danbury, Conn.; a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kemp was preceded in death by a son, Larry Steven Ralston. Graveside services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 1995, in the Timber Ridge ARP Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel H. LAMBERT, Mary Gladys, 87, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, May 9, 1995. She was born in Abingdon, daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. George L. Lambert. She attended Randolph Macon Womens College and graduated from Emory & Henry College. She taught school in Richmond for 37 years and retired as head of the English Department at John Marshall High School. She was a member of the Boulevard United MEthodist Church in Richmond until she moved to the Roanoke United Methodist Home in August 1990. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Roanoke. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, George L. Lambert, Jr. and Ruth Magruder Lambert. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, May 12, 1995, at the Roanoke United Methodist Home with the Rev. Robert Chapman and the Rev. Kenneth G. Scott officiating. MARSH, Charles Clinton, (``Junior''), 61, of Roanoke, passed away, Thursday, May 11, 1995, at his home, after a long illness. He was a former employee of Associated Transport for 15 years and was former owner and operator of Marsh Garage & Auto Sales. Surviving are his wife, Peggy M. Marsh; daughter, Donna Marsh; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Marsha Marsh, Gene and Penny Marsh, Billy Marsh, Danny Marsh, all of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Billy Marsh Jr., Krystal Marsh, Lindsey Marsh, Brenden Payjack, Nicole Marsh, Lauren Marsh; one sister, Shelia Phillips, Roanoke; brother and sister-in-law, David Lee and Janice Marsh, Mullens, W.Va.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and John Smith, Newport, Va.; special friend, David Trout; private nurse, Lisa Phillips. SMITH, Walter Alexander, 81, of Clifton Forge, died Friday, May 5, 1995, in Philadelphia, Penn. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 3 p.m., First Baptist Church, 1918 Church St., Clifton Forge, with the Rev. A. L. Maxwell officiating and assisted by area ministers. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Interment will be held at Red Hill Cemetery. He is survived by one sister, Vanetta Smith-Parks; one brother, Chester A. STARGELL, Chassie Keeling, of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, Squire L. and Arie Gravely Keeling; sisters, Mary K. Holland and Cora K. McGeorge; brothers, Joseph and Benjamin Keeling. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in Ohio, Pittsburg, Pa., and Roanoke. WHEELER, Raymond Rudolph Sr., (``Rudy'') 74, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, May 10, 1995, at Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Born in Amherst County on July 14, 1920, he was the son of the late William and Ethel Henson Wheeler. He served in the U.S. Air Corp during WWII, was a member of Plumbers & Steam Fitters Union Local 10 and a member of Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Jones Wheeler, Buena Vista; a daughter, Alanda Ann Whitten, Buena Vista; five sons, Raymond R. Wheeler Jr., Alpharetta, Ga., Michael Steven Wheeler, Richmond, Robert William Wheeler and Ralph Wade Wheeler, both of Buena Vista and David Lee Wheeler, Lexington; five sisters, Rachel Flint, Ruth Floyd and Jean Holt, all of Buena Vista, Freda Austin, Richmond and Matha Thompson, Rutherfor dton, N.C., and four grandchildren.
