Betty Hagerman, 47, remained in stable condition at Princeton Community Hospital with injuries she suffered in the accident, a nursing supervisor said.
Officer T.L. Simmons said Hagerman ran a red light at U.S. 52 and U.S. 460 just outside of Bluefield, and her van hit a car driven by Cynthia Wheeler, 27, of Wytheville.
Wheeler and her mother, Betty Coe, 49, of Austinville, Va., were killed. Two passengers in their vehicle were injured.
Simmons said Hagerman would be arraigned when she is released from the hospital.
