Talton went on to nursing school, but "when it was time to give a shot, I dropped out," she said. Talton decided to pursue her teaching degree and, she said, has never regretted changing career paths. Her sister, by the way, is a nurse.
Talton, who has taught elementary school for 10 years, three at Belview in Montgomery County, said she is inspired by many of the teachers she had. "I had teachers who let me know I was valuable," she said. "I would be proud for them to know I work hard to emulate them."
As the wife of a career Air Force officer, Talton said she has taught and lived all over the world. No place, she says, equals Montgomery County. "I love the Blue Ridge Mountains."
"Mrs. Talton is a super teacher. All of the kids I know love her. And she's cute," said one of her nominators.
Talton and her husband are the parents of 13-year-old Jessee. She enjoys needlework, reading and travel.
