A weekend sweep of Southern Mississippi in baseball gave the Hokies a share of the regular-season baseball championship Sunday and their third consecutive Metro all-sports championship.
Tech finished with 39.5 points in eight men's sports to edge runner-up South Florida by two points. North Carolina-Charlotte (34) was third, followed by Virginia Commonwealth (33), Southern Miss (27), Louisville (22.5), and Tulane (17.5).
In addition to sharing the baseball crown, the Hokies won the men's title in cross country and finished second in indoor track.
The Tech women finished second to South Florida, 34.5 points to 31, in their all-sports competition. Louisville (24.5) was third, followed by Tulane (22), VCU (21), UNC Charlotte (20), and Southern Miss (14.5).
The Hokies won the regular-season title in women's basketball and finished second in indoor and outdoor track.
Tech joins the Atlantic 10 Conference for the 1995-96 school year, with all the other Metro schools except VCU (Colonial Athletic Association) joining the new Conference USA.
