PULASKI COUNTY NOW REQUIRES BUILDING DEBRIS PERMIT

A debris permit is now required for anyone in Pulaski County doing building, renovation or demolition to help the New River Resource Authority track construction wastes coming into its Ingles Mountain landfill.

Residential customers of the county Public Service Authority whose accounts are current can dispose of construction wastes at the landfill without additional charges.

"I think it's a good idea," Supervisor Mason Vaughan said. "It helps residents keep costs down and helps the county to prevent roadside dumping of waste that has previously ended up over a bank along a country road."

It will allow landfill and building officials to know what debris to expect and find out what happened to it if it does not come to the landfill.

It will also avoid the need for contractors to charge customers for a service for which they have already paid through their garbage bill, Vaughan said.

Part of the regular garbage bill goes toward access to and upkeep of the landfill. Contractors doing work for Service Authority customers can haul debris from the work site to the landfill and have it credited to the resident. People doing their own work can haul their own debris to the landfill.

The permit is obtained from county building officials at the Pulaski County Administration Building at the same time as other building permits are obtained. Further information is available from the authority by calling 674-8720 or the building office at 980-7710.
