Food Lion to try to resolve dispute

SALISBURY, N.C. - Food Lion said Monday it has agreed to address overtime work dispute cases for 130 employees and former employees in western North Carolina in a dispute resolution process outside of court.

The agreement concerns overtime work between 1989 and 1993 in a settlement independent of a 1993 agreement with the federal government.

The employees represent only a fraction of the nearly 1,000 workers who have filed similar claims against the grocery chain since 1991, many of whom have already settled.

Food Lion agreed to the latest settlements May 5. Company officials said the settlements do not represent an admission of guilt.
