CLUB BOUNCER RECOVERING FROM BITE

The bouncer who had part of his ear bitten off in an attack by a nightclub patron early Saturday morning has had the ear reattached and is recovering well.

Steve White, 26, a doorman at the Elephant Walk lounge at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood, said he didn't even spend the night in the hospital. Surgeons were able to sew the ear back on, and he said it seems to be healing properly.

Part of White's ear was bitten off by a man who was trying to re-enter the Elephant Walk, Roanoke County Police said.

Someone put the piece of White's ear in a cup of ice water. Rescue workers packed it in ice and transported it and White to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where the ear was surgically reattached.

Police charged Timothy Thompson, 26, with malicious wounding and public intoxication in connection with the attack. Thompson was free Monday on bond.
