Ralph E. Fuller Jr., 22, of 608 Naho St. N.W. was shot about 8:30 p.m. at his residence in the Lansdowne housing project, according to a Roanoke police news release. A struggle with someone from the neighborhood apparently preceded the shooting.
Fuller was hit once in the arm and once in the chest, the release said. He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
One resident of the neighborhood, a nursing assistant who administered first aid to Fuller, said his chest wound was just above the heart. Police confirmed that Fuller's injuries did not appear life-threatening.
The woman, who did not want her name used, said that just before she heard gunshots, she heard two men walking past her apartment saying how they were going to hurt someone.
After the gunshots, she said, she saw two men running from where the shooting had occurred.
Police searched the area but had made no arrests Tuesday night.
