The Roanoke Express will sponsor its 1995 hockey school for young players Aug. 7-11 at the Roanoke Civic Center. Express coach Frank Anzalone will be the director for the school, which is open for boys and girls ages 7-17. The school's fee is $200.
Express forward Jason Clarke will be one of the instructors at the school. Other guest instructors will be named later.

Star soccer team reaches final four
The Roanoke Star Under 12 White boys' soccer team went undefeated in the sweet 16 round of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association's State Cup Tournament at River's Edge Park in Roanoke.
By winning all three of its round-robin games, the team advances to the final four in Richmond June 3-4.
Roanoke beat the Washington, D.C., Rangers 2-0 with goals by Raymie Equi and Donny Smith. Christ Keilman and Pierce Lancaster had assists, and goalkeeper Charlie Patterson earned the shutout.
The team won 3-0 against the Manassas Falcons. Michael Bear, Smith and Michael Kramer scored goals on assists by Bear and Glenn Grunewald. Patterson and fellow goalkeeper Chris McCorkle shared the shutout.
Smith scored again on a penalty kick in the last minute of play as the team outlasted the Spotsylvania Hotspurs 3-2. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Roanoke's John Hartman and Smith both earned goals in the second half before Spotsylvania tied the score late in the half. Just before time expired, Roanoke was awarded the winning penalty kick when Kramer was fouled in Spotsylvania's penalty box.
This team is the first Roanoke team to advance to the final four of the State Cup since the tournament began its 32-team format.
Northwest Tennis Club seeks doubles teams
The Northwest Tennis Club is holding its Doubles Tennis Championships May 19-21 at Eureka Park.
Teams can enter in men's, women's and mixed doubles for a $20 fee per team. The tournament will be played on a hard, outdoor court.
Prizes will be given to winners and finalists; each participant will get a T-shirt.

Jaguars reign as AAU state champions
The Roanoke Valley Jaguars boys' 12-and-under basketball team captured the state AAU championship and will travel to Salt Lake City for the national tournament starting July 22.
Terrance Hudson hit the game-winning shot to lift the Jaguars past Newport News 51-50 in the championship game. The team reached the final by beating Newport News 59-57 on a basket by Adrian Jones.
Point guard Johnathan Smith had 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for Roanoke Valley in the title game.
