BUCHANAN, Shirley Anne, 52, of Lexington, N.C., died Wednesday, May 17, 1995, in Lexington Memorial Hospital. She was born in Gaston County, March 5, 1943, to Clyde Marion Strutt and Grace Hoyle Strutt. She was an employee of Lexington Memorial Hospital and an active member of the First United Methodist Church. Surviving include her husband, James (Jim) Buchanan of the home; son, Jim Buchanan of Burlington, N.C.; daughters, Holly Buchanan-Fishback of Durham, N.C.; mother, Grace Whitesides of Kings Mountain, N.C.; sisters, Rebecca (Becky) Frazier of Salem, Va. DENTON, James W., 82, of Albuquerque, N.M., died Saturday, May 13, 1995, following a long illness. Mr. Denton was born in Lynchburg, Va., June 24, 1912. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He graduated from Roanoke College with a degree in Chemistry and worked as a chemist at the Roanoke and Front Royal American Viscose Plants. Mr. Denton was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist devoting much of his time to the construction and maintenance of hiking trails throughout Virginia. He authored two books on hiking in northern Virginia; ``Circuit Hikes in Shenandoah National Park"" and ``Guide to the Massanutten Mountain."" Mr. Denton held lifetime memberships in the Roanoke and Potomac Appalachian Trail Clubs and the Appalachian Trail Conference. He was a long-standing member of the Rivermont Ramblers Square Dancing Club. He resided in Front Royal from 1958 through 1991. Mr. Denton is survived by three children, Shirley Denton of Tampa, Fla., Jim Denton of Mt. Hood, Oregon, and Mike Denton of Albuquerque, N.M.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Molly in 1991. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Appalachian Trail Conference, Harpers Ferry, W. Va. 25425. DILLON, John Lewis, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 1995, in a local nursing home. Mr. Dillon was preceded in death by his parents, David Gilliam Dillon and Julia Pasley Dillon, and a sister, Thelma Dillon Caldwell. Mr. Dillon was a Veteran of WWII. He was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, the VFW and the American Legion. He retired after 30 years of service with the N & W Railway. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Alva Pauline Caldwell Dillon; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra D. and Norman B. King, Salem; four grandchildren, Lori A. King, Lisa Marie King, both of Roanoke, Kevin Lee King, Amanda Laine King, both of Salem; brother, Levi Dillon, Providence Forge; sisters, Ida Craft, Moneta, Ruby Fulk, Roanoke, Betty Robertson, Moneta; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Oakey's North Chapel by Dr. Alton M. Washington and Dr. J. Michael Palmer. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. FRANCE, Paul Hampton, 87, of Manassas, died Wednesday, May 17, 1995, at his residence. Mr. France was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Manassas where he was a Sunday School teacher and Lay leader. He was a member and officer of the Manassas Ruritan Club and had helped form several Ruritan clubs throughout the state . He was a 1930 graduate of Virginia Tech and taught vocational agriculture in Augusta County and in Fluvanna County where he was later County Extension Agent. In 1955 he joined the State Department and served 15 years as an Agriculture Advisor in several foreign countries with the AID program. Mr. France was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Susan France Spitler in 1990. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Reba Ruff France; one son, Joe Hampton France, Manassas; one daughter, Grace France Boger, Salem; and one sister, Ruth Mothershead, Montross. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Leigh Anne Ross, Harrisonburg, John France, Wilmington, N.C., Carolyn Boger, Reston, and David Paul Boger, Arlington, and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 1995, at Lee Funeral Home of Manassas, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas. JORDAN, James Radford Jr., 72, of Bedford, died Thursday, May 18, 1995 in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Campbell County on January 9, 1923, a son of the late James Radford Jordan Sr. and Callie Beatrice Yates Jordan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Jordan, and a sister, Carolyn Harris. He was a retired manager with Leggett's Department Store, with 48 years of service, and was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church. Mr. Jordan also was a member of the Lynchburg Elks Lodge #321, V.F.W. Post #2157, Liberty Masonic Lodge #95 and Boar d-Canady Post of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Jordan; a son and daughter-in-law, Marc R. and Susan Jordan, Thurmont, Md.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra J. and Stacey Cooper, Wirtz; a brother, Preston Jordan, Madison Heights; four sisters, Nancy Rice, Betty Pendry and Louise Daniel, all of Lynchburg, Lurlee Slate, Naruna; also four grandchildren. WADE, Dolph William, 72, of Roanoke, died Wednesday May 17, 1995, at his home surrounded by family and loving care of Housecall Hospice. He was a retiree of Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Mr. Wade was born July 3, 1922 in Stewartsville, Va., the son of the late Willie Gilbert and Laura Fralin Wade. His love sustained him in the care of his mother through many years of illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cohenour Wade for whom he also provided loving care in a long illness and son, Arnold Tincher. He is survived by daughters, Ruth Fizer, Helen Joann Davis and Brenda Boone; best friend and son-in-law, Norman Davis and grandchildren, Charles, Donna, Gaye, Clifton, and Billy; and five great-grandchildren. Surviving are loving brothers and sisters, Alice Howell, Vinton; Frances Jones, Hickory, N.C., Maxine Peters, Roanoke, Fred Wade, Vinton, John and Hazel Wade, Blue Ridge, Lindburgh and Evelyn Wade, Bedford, and Nelson Wade of Bedford; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. WYGAL, Josephine R., of Roanoke went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 17, 1995. She was born July 13, 1913, Josephine Elizabeth Riggle, in Knox County, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wygal; son, William Wygal; daughter, Louise Wygal Garrison; and granddaughter, Diane A. Pelkey. She will be sadly missed by her daughter and two sons, Reba W. Snyder, Roanoke, Donald E. Wygal, Roanoke, F. Roger Wygal, Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother, Helen Wheelock, Spring Hill, Fla., Katherine Driscoll, Alexandria, Nellie Ruth Irwin, Elki n, N. C., Glenn Riggle, Union City, Ind. She was a loving mother who always placed her family first in her life, providing an example of God's everlasting love. Mrs. Wygal was a retired Nurse's Aid at Community Hospital and a devoted member of the Heritage Singers at First Baptist Church and the Mary-Martha Bible Class. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, May 20, 1995, at 3 p.m. at Lotz Roanoke Chapel with Rev. John Cochran officiating. Interment will be private. Family requests that instead of flowers donations be made to the Mary-Martha Bible Class, First Baptist Church, 515 3rd Street, Roanoke, Va., in her memory. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Lotz Funeral Home, Roanoke.
