BLACKSBURG - The American Cancer Society will sponsor the second day of its 24-hour Relay for Life today at Virginia Tech's South Recreation Field.
Teams of 10-15 volunteers will participate, raising at least $1,000 for each team as members walk around a course, relay-style. Candles will be lit for victims of cancer. For more information, call 552-4107.
Breakfast to benefit museum fund
PEARISBURG - A breakfast benefiting the Giles County Historical Society's Museum and Restoration Fund will be held Sunday. The event, which is sponsored and catered by Tony and Cindy Williams, society members, will be on the first floor of the historic 1829 house, home of the Historical Society.
The cost of the meal is $10. Serving times are 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Reservations should be made for specific seating times by calling 921-1540, 921-2157 or 726-7428.
A fancy cruiser means Buckle Up!
BLACKSBURG - Blacksburg Police will tie red, white and blue ribbons to their vehicle antennas to kick off Buckle Up America! Week next week. The ribbons are meant to encourage people to buckle up and observe driving under the influence laws.
This is the fourth annual red, white and blue campaign in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Region III, which includes Virginia. Buckle Up America! Week is part of a two-year program designed to increase safety belt use to 75 percent and reduce alcohol-related fatalities to 43 percent by 1997.
