TECH FALLS IN METRO TOURNEY

South Florida defeated Virginia Tech 3-2 on Friday to put the Hokies in the loser's bracket at the Metro Conference baseball tournament.

South Florida scored a run on Ross Gload's double to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning, then held off a Tech rally in the bottom of the inning. Kevin Kurilla's bases-loaded sacrifice fly pulled the Hokies to 3-2 but, with the tying run at third base, Christian Conte struck out to end the game.

Adam Donner (8-3) struck out nine batters in seven innings for the win. The Hokies play Tulane at 11 a.m. today in an elimination game. With a win, Tech would play either South Florida or Southern Miss at 7:30 p.m. today.
