'Bye Bye, Birdie''

The Cherry Tree Players will hold auditions for ``Bye Bye, Birdie'' on Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Cherry Tree Playhouse, Boonsboro Shopping Center, Lyncbhburg.

A large cast of various ages is required, including a 10-year-old boy.

Auditioners should bring a prepared song. Readings will be from the script.

The play opens Aug. 4 and runs through Sept. 16. Some performers will be compensated.

Discount tickets

Discount ticket packages for shows in the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center's 1995-96 Performing Arts Season are now available.

The season will include ``Annie Warbucks,'' ``Kiss Me, Kate,'' ``Foxfire,'' ``A Raisin In the Sun,'' ``The Lion In Winter,'' ``The Tales of Beatrix Potter'' and ``West Side Story.''

'Annie Warbucks'

Auditions for the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center's production of ``Annie Warbucks'' will be held May 30 at 7 p.m. for children, and May 31 and June 1 at 7 p.m. for adults.

Roles are available for 16 children aged seven to 14, and 25 adults aged 14 and up.

Those auditioning should bring one verse of a prepared song with sheet music. There will be a movement audition and reading from the script.

Hospice program

The Good Samaritan Hospice will hold a five-week session for children, pre-teens and teen-agers to help them work through a present or previous loss of a loved one using art. The art activities will encourage them to share their experiences with others and help them come to to terms with thier losses.

Children aged five-10 will meet at the hospice on Mondays from June 12-July 3. Pre-teens and teenagers, 11-15, will meet on Thursdays from June 15-July 6. Sessions will be held from 10 a.m.-noon.

The facility is located at 3825 Electric Road S.W., Roanoke. There is no charge for participation.

State Fair of W.Va.

The 71st State Fair of West Virginia will be held Aug. 11-19. Grandstand performances will include "MTV Real World" star John Brennan plus 4 Runner, Aug. 11; George Jones and Lari White, Aug. 12; Statler Brothers, Aug. 13; Confederate Railroad and David Ball, Aug. 14; Martina McBride and Marty Stuart, Aug. 15; Clay Walker and Lisa Brokops, Aug. 16; Firehouse, Aug. 17; Aaron Tippin and Little Texas, Aug. 18, 6:30 and 9:30 p.m.; Merle Haggard and Alison Krauss, Aug. 19.

Performances are at 8 p.m., unless noted otherwise.

Ticket sales will begin June 12 for telephone and mail orders only. Mail orders postmarked prior to June 9 will be returned unopened. Telephone orders will be accepted Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Special $5 single grounds admission tickets and $10 carnival ride strips will be available at any One Valley Bank from July 3 through Aug. 9.
