The Community Traffic Safety Program of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the Southwest Virginia Emergency Medical Services Council have reminded people of the safety measures they can employ while in a vehicle, which include safety belts, but also air bags and child safety seats. Law enforcement officials will emphasize safety belt use through greater enforcement.
In 1194, 926 people died on Virginia roadways. Only 238 of them were buckled up, according to authorities. Virginia law requires that all front-seat passengers to use safety belts and all children under four to ride in a child safety seat.
