BANTON, Herbert Lee, (``Buck""), 72, of 1209 Maymont Dr., Bedford, died Monday, May 22, 1995 at his residence. He was born in Bedford County on July 15, 1922, a son of Ruth Powers Banton and the late Ottie O'Neil Banton. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving in the Air Force. Buck was retired from the Lane Company, Altavista and was employed by Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford. He was a member of the Bedford Baptist Church and sang in the church choir. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Doris Carter Reynolds Banton; four daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Steve Bitterolf, Temple City, CA., Jeri and Tom Steele, Lake Forest, CA., Neala and Bob Plutte, Las Vegas, NV., Mila Banton, Las Vegas, NV.; one brother, Neal F. Banton, Jamestown, IN.; two stepdaughters, Ginger Lee Reynolds, Minneapolis, MN., Delores and Bill Bradee, Fairfax; one stepson, Van C. Reynolds, Palm Bay., FL.; seven grandchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 1995, at Bedford Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Charles T. Dorman officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home and immediately following the service Wednesday at the church in the church parlor. BATES, Reverend Lewis E., 81, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, May 21, 1995, at Friendship Health Care Center. He attended Ohio State and graduated from Columbia Bible College. He was a graduate of Faith Seminary in Wilmington, Del., and did graduate work at New Orleans Seminary and Louisville Seminary. Reverend Bates had se rved churches in Virginia, Florida and Louisiana. He was a former minister of Vinton Baptist Church where he served for over 20 years. After his retirement he served at Haran Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth B. Bates; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen E. Bates, Cloverdale, Lewis E. Jr. and Betty Bates, Roanoke, John H. and Janice Bates, Richmond, David H. and Nancy Bates, Vinton; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin Sue and M. Davis Barbour, Bedford Co.; granddaughters, Nicole Bates, Jennifer Brown Bates; grandsons, Christopher Barbour, James T. Bates, Lucas H. Barbour; sister, Miss Margaret C. Bates, Charlotte, N.C.; brother, John H. Hoyt, Nevada; sister-in-law, Margaret B. Alfano, Dayton, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and cousins. CROWGEY, Hugh Cameron, 72, of New Orleans, La., formerly of Wythe County, died Saturday, May 20, 1995. He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Crowgey and a sister, Helen Sheppard. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Thomas Crowgey; two daughters, Lucy H. Crowgey, Houston, Texas, Mary Varner Crowgey, Burkina Faso, West Africa; his mother, Pearl Ellett Crowgey, Roanoke; three sisters, Emma L. Leidholdt, Virginia Beach, Va., Mary C. Pafford, Roanoke, Anne C. Borthwick, Gaffney, S.C.; three brothers, Dr. Junius E. Crowgey, James L. Crowgey, both of Roanoke, John H. Crowgey Jr., Wytheville; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. FLICK, Vance Miller, (``Flick''), 85, of Roanoke, died Monday, May 22, 1995, in a local hospital. He was a member of Belmont Christian Church, a member of Virginia Heights Masonic Lodge #324 and a retired employee of Roanoke Iron and Bridge. Surviving are his wife, Reba Jacobs Flick; one niece, Pauline Barbour; three nephews, John Moran, Allen Moran and Jimmy Moran, all of Roanoke. GREENSTEIN, Fannette B., 81, of Roanoke died Sunday, May 21, 1995 in a local hospital. She was the widow of Dr. Raphael H. Greenstein and a member of both Temple Emanuel and Beth Israel Synagogue. Mrs. Greenstein was involved with Greenville Nursery School; treasurer of Temple Emanual Sisterhood and a docent of the Art Museum of Western Virginia. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Walter K. Bordelt, Syracuse, N.Y., Ann and James Bradley, Palo Alto, Calif., four grandchildren, Joshua Richmond, Hallie Richmond, Minna Rose Bordelt and James Richard Bradley III. GUTHRIE, Howard Montague, 76, of Salem, passed away Sunday, May 21, 1995, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He was a member and deacon of First Church of the Brethren. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II as a radio operator, and was retired from General Electric. Survivors include his beloved wife and soul mate of 56 years, Helen Virginia Gearheart Guthrie, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Michael Poe, Judy and Vernon Ellison, all of Salem, Joyce and Stan Pearson, of Claremont, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard L. ROUND, Edith Dexter Rice, 88, of Manassas, died Sunday, May 21, 1995 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md. She was born in Columbus, Ga. in 19 06. She was predeceased by two husbands, Everett Latimer Rice and Roswell Emory Round; and one sister, Jean MacDougal Dexter Lutz. She is survived by two daughters, Amory Dexter Rice Wade of Manassas, Lydia Latimer O'Rear Rice Glenn of Marion; one son, MacDougal Rice, Manassas; two sisters, Mary Folwell Dexter Boyd, Mankato, Kansas, Roberta Dexter Adamson, Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Round studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Newcomb College of Tulane University and Fountainbleau School of Fine Arts, Fountainbleau, France. She was the first chairman of the hospital auxiliary volunteers at Prince William Hospital. She served as the Blood Program Chairman of Prince William County. At Montgomery County Hospital she served as volunteer trainer. She was a member of the Bethlehem Club and of Trinity Episcopal Church. Recently, she has been active in the Preservation of the Historic Limstrong Corner area and the Prince William Courthouse. Among her widely diverse paintings are the scenes of Old Town Manassas. STONE, Anne Aylett McNulty, 86, of Roanoke, died Sunday, May 21,1995. She was retired from the Roanoke City Schools and a director of Christian education at St. John's Episcopal Church. Her parents were Charles See McNulty, Sr. and Anna Aylett Anderson of Lexington. She was the widow of Major Frederick Stone (Ret.). She is survived by her children, F. Anderson Stone, Richmond, Ardell Pierce Stone, Roanoke, J. Nicholas and Aylett Stone Suhr, Holmdel, N.J.; son-in-law, Dewey K. Anderson. Grandchildren are John N. and Lorraine Suhr Jr., Erika Christl Suhr, Samuel and Lynn Stone Hampton, Frederick A. Stone Jr., Aylett Lear Anderson, and William A.
