ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Passenger traffic at Roanoke Regional Airport declined in April compared with a year earlier, when discount fares encouraged travelers. The airport reported 27,531 boarding passengers last month, down 15.23 percent compared to 32,476 a year earlier. The figure was off by 0.34 percent from 27,624 in March. So far this year, 99,971 passengers boarded planes in Roanoke, down 4.82 percent from last year's figure of 105,030.

The amount of air cargo, however, continued growing and rose 38.5 percent over the year: 2,020.51 tons in April compared to 1,509.65 tons a year ago.
