Tony Morrison's future at Virginia Tech apparently is in jeopardy.
Morrison, expected to start at inside linebacker in the fall for the Hokies' football team, was involved in a recent unspecified on-campus incident. He is in the process of appealing a school ruling that basically has left him in a state of suspension - unable to enroll for classes or play football at Tech.
Larry Hincker, director of university relations, said Tuesday night that ``all I can say is that [Morrison's] status is in limbo at the current time.'' Hincker said a review process is under way to determine Morrison's future.
``Some of the people who have to be involved in this are out of town right now,'' he said, ``but when they get back I look for this to be settled pretty quickly.''
Morrison was at home in Chesapeake on Tuesday, but was unavailable for comment. Frank Beamer, Tech's head coach, also could not be reached for comment.
Spokesmen for the Virginia Tech campus police and Blacksburg Police Department each said Tuesday they had no record of any incidents involving Morrison.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound rising sophomore was suspended for one game in the fall for an unspecified violation of team rules. In rare duty for a true freshman, he played in 10 games, including starts against Virginia and against Tennessee in the Gator Bowl.
Morrison had 27 tackles (14 solo) and one interception. He figured to fill the opening left by the departure of Ken Brown.
Bob Parker, who coached Morrison at Indian River High School, said Morrison has been working out regularly at the school and has not indicated there is a possibility he would not return to Tech in the fall.
