CYCLISTS ROLL INTO ROANOKE

Roanoke will be the site of several pro-am cycling races during the weekend in conjunction with Festival in the Park.

The ROC Hillclimb, a time trial to the top of Mill Mountain, will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, starting at the base of the mountain. Among the professional cyclists expected to compete in the event are Team Saturn's Scott Fortner, Scott Mercier and Brian Walton, who won the event last year with a time of 8 minutes, 26 seconds.

On Monday, more than 400 cyclists are expected to compete for $15,000 in the Saturn Festival Cup in downtown Roanoke. Also Monday is the first Cardinal Bicycle Women's Pro race, which will feature Saturn's Clara Hughes, a 12-time national champion. The pro races begin at 11:30 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. Other races will be held from 8:45 a.m. through 6 p.m.
