W&L RUNNER 10TH AT DIVISION III MEET

Washington and Lee's Josephine Schaeffer placed 10th Wednesday in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA's Division III track and field championships in Northfield, Minn.

Schaeffer's time of 37:55.05 was more than two minutes off the pace of winner Kelly Kopp (35:37.94) of St.Thomas, Minn.

In other sports in the region:

Marilyn Baker (tennis) and Shaun McKenzie (lacrosse) were named the Preston Brown Outstanding Senior female and male athletes, respectively, at W&L's annual awards ceremony.

Other honorees for the Generals were: Kim Herring, William McHenry Scholar-Athlete Award; Jennifer Garrigus, Wink Glasgow Spirit and Sportsmanship Award; Jason Callen and Natalia Garcia, outstanding freshman male and female athletes; Severn DuVall, R.E. ``Chub'' Yeakel Memorial Service Award; Stephanie Tomasso, J.L. ``Lefty'' Newell Memorial Award; and Shellie Milligan, Richard Miller Physical Education Scholarship.
