Durham relief pitcher Earl Nelson, who was videotaped kicking Winston-Salem Warthogs pitcher Glen Cullop in the head during the fight, was fined $300 and suspended for six games, The Winston-Salem Journal and The Herald-Sun of Durham reported Thursday.
The Journal said Durham players Dale Matthews and Jason Green began their two-game suspensions Wednesday. The newspaper also reported that pitcher Jason Kummerfeldt and catcher Scott Bako were suspended for three games.
All players who leave their positions during a fight are automatically fined a minimum of $100 and suspended for two games. Most of those involved were in this category, the league said. Several players received more than the minimum.
The brawl occurred during Monday night's game after several batters were hit by pitches. Ten players were ejected following the brawl, which occurred on ``Strike Out Domestic Violence'' night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Cullop, 23, underwent surgery Wednesday to repair broken jawbones he suffered during the brawl. He also lost several teeth during Monday night's brawl and was knocked unconscious.
The brawl began after Durham's John Knott was hit by a pitch from Jason Kummerfeldt and charged the mound with two out in the bottom of the third inning.
Kummerfeldt already had hit Danny Magee in the first inning and had given up back-to-back homers before hitting Knott on the left arm. In the top of the third, Bulls pitcher Jamie Arnold had hit Aaron Boone of Winston-Salem.
Kummerfeldt denied hitting the Bulls intentionally.
