ATKINSON, Claudine John, 87, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, May 24, 1995 in Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg. She was born April 30, 1908 in Catawba Valley, Montgomery County, near MacDonald Mill and reared in Shawsville, the daughter of Milton Mason and Lavenia Burton John. She is survived by her husband, William Bane Atkinson; two sons and daughters-in-law , William Bane Jr. and Sue Burton Atkinson, Peachtree City, Ga. and John MacDonald and Debra L. Atkinson, Manassas. Surviving grandchildren and spouses are Cynthia A. and Gerald M. Keeling, Bedford, Steven Bane Atkinson, Manassas, Bruce M. and Cathy P. Atkinson, Greensboro, N.C., Leslie Anne Atkinson, New York City, N.Y., Anthony B. and Kathryn L. Atkinson, Glen Allen, Laura A. Cunningham, Peachtree City, Ga., Brett K. Atkinson, Atlanta, Ga., and Jason C. and Paige L. Weikle, Manassas; great-grandchildren are Shawn, Nicholas and Adam Keeling, all of Bedford, Robert J. Atkinson, Greensboro, N.C., Kaitlyn and Michael Atkinson, Glen Allen, and Zachary Cunningham, Peachtree City, Ga. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 1995, at Blacksburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Herbert Hobbs officiating, followed by interment in Sherwood Cemetery, Salem. CASTEVENS, E. Bernice, 87, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Friday, May 25, 1995. She was the widow of the Rev. Grady A. Castevens, a member of Emmanuel Wesleyan Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth C. Brillhart. Surviving are a son, James A. Castevens of St. Louis; son-in-law, The Rev. COOPER, William Campbell, more affectionately known as (``CAM""), of Callaway, died peacefully in his sleep, Wednesday, May 23, 1995, at his home. He was a loving husband, an unbeatable father and a caring and forthright family man. He could grow a garden on rock, catch a fish with his bare hands, and tell the best stories that have ever been told. Though his presence will be missed, his spirit and knowledge will always be with us. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth ``Tootsie"" Cooper; his children, Wesley Stephen Cooper, Richmond, Loretta Faye Cooper, Richmond, Jeffrey Campbell Cooper and his wife, Carmen Maria Cooper, Houston, Texas, and Ruben Carson Cooper and his wife, Sylvia G. DALTON, Martin Lester, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, May 24, 1995, at home after a long illness. He was 87. Mr. Dalton was born in Floyd, Va., and spent his career in the service of the Commonwealth, first as an Associate Professor of Animal Husbandry at Virginia Tech and for three decades as County Extension Agent in Bath County. He loved living in Bath County and gave his time willingly to farmers, 4-H members, and the general progress of the county. He was instrumental in founding the Mountain Grove-Williamsville Telephone Company and the Bath County Public Service Authority. Mr. Dalton served as an elder of the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church, president of the Covington-Hot Springs Rotary Club, president of the Bath County Chamber of Commerce, and as a member of the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Commission. He was a member of the Sons of Cincinnatus, a graduate of Virginia Tech, and a loyal Hokie clear down to his maroon socks. He was a loving husband and a patient father. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Dalton; two daughters, Nancy Dwoyer of Gloucester, Va., and Elizabeth Malone; two sons, Dr. Martin L. Dalton of Augusta, Ga., and Jeffrey Dalton of Blacksburg; and five granddaughters. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 28, at 4 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel on the Virginia Tech campus, with the Rev. Ernie Baker officiating. Born January 24, 1926, he was the son of the late Willie Duncan and Beatrice Gravely Duncan. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy. He was a retired construction worker.
