Bennie Russell, fire marshal for Franklin County, said the fire started when an electric motor overheated on a conveyor system. Russell said Fire Chief Posey Dillon determined the cause fo the fire.
Rocky Mount, Glade Hill and Boones Mill fire departments responded to the call, as well as the Franklin County Rescue Squad.
``The quick reaction time [of the volunteers] probably saved the plant,'' Russell said.
Firefighters were at the plant on 337 Hale St. within three minutes and put the fire out within five, Russell said.
