PAT ROBERTSON SUED; THREATS, LIES ALLEGED

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson has been named in a lawsuit filed by a Forsyth County man who says he was threatened by Robertson and that Robertson's organization spread lies about him.

Attorneys for Mark A. Peterson and his wife, Andrea Peterson, filed a lawsuit Friday in Forsyth Superior Court against Robertson, the Christian Broadcasting Network Inc., five members of CBN's board of directors, and Ralph Reed, who is director of the Christian Coalition.

From November 1991 until just before Christmas 1992, Mark Peterson was president of American Benefits Plus, a multilevel marketing company owned by Robertson and CBN. The suit says that Robertson fired Peterson and then issued a public statement blaming Peterson for American Benefits' financial difficulties. The suit says that after Peterson disputed Robertson's assertions in interviews with reporters, Robertson called Mark Peterson's sister, Pam Johnson, and threatened Peterson's life.
