CARJACKING SUSPECT ARRESTED

A Henry County man accused of stealing a car at gunpoint last week and abducting its driver, who finally jumped from the moving vehicle, was arrested Saturday in Texas.

Herbert Lee Cobler, 34, was taken into custody in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by Eastland County sheriff's deputies, according to Capt. W.H. Dodson of the Henry County Sheriff's Office. Cobler is charged with carjacking, abduction, robbery by force and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, Dodson said.

Tina Boyd, also of Henry County, told deputies last week she was getting into her car in a grocery store parking lot in the Stanleytown area on May 22 when the abduction took place, according to Dodson. She said a man pressed a heavy object into her side and told her he was taking the car and her.

Dodson said the two traveled 10 to 12 miles together, during which time the man, who was driving, took money from Boyd's purse. When the man slowed to make a turn, Boyd jumped from the car and ran into a nearby business.

She identified Cobler in a photographic lineup.

Cobler was being held Saturday in the Eastland County, Texas, jail. Dodson said Cobler has agreed to waive extradition to Virginia.
