FALL FROM HORSE INJURES ACTOR REEVE

Christopher Reeve was thrown from his mount during a competition and was in stable condition Sunday.

The actor, who starred in the ``Superman'' movies, was admitted to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville after the accident Saturday, said his publicist, Lisa Kasteler.

Reeve, 42, was approaching the third jump of a 15-jump course when ``something spooked the horse,'' said Monk Reynolds, owner of Commonwealth Park in Culpeper.

``His horse just stopped dead and threw him,'' Reynolds said.

He said Reeve appeared to suffer a neck injury and was carried off the field on a stretcher.

The actor's family asked hospital officials not to comment. Kasteler would say only that he was in stable condition.

Reeve, who owns several horses, was competing in the dressage and horse-jumping event when the accident happened.

He recently appeared in John Carpenter's remake of ``Village of the Damned'' and the HBO movie ``Above Suspicion.''
