BARNES, Dennis J., 71, of Roanoke, died Sunday, May 28, 1995. He was an army Veteran of World War II, 101st Airborne Division and was awarded the Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts, Campaign & Service Victory Medal, European & Mediterranean Campaign Medal, The American Campaign Medal, Good conduct Medal, Currahee Division Badge and the Combat Infantryman Badge 101st Airborne Division. Mr. Barnes was a retired Educator in Roanoke City, Botetourt County, Smythe County, Suffolk and Virginia Western Community College. He was a graduate of N.C. State and U.N.C. at Chapel Hill with a Masters Degree in Education. His M.S. Degree from Virginia Tech. Mr. Barnes was a member of Saint Marks Lutheran Church. Surviving is his wife, Doris Cooper Barnes; son, George Jefferson Barnes, Roanoke; brother, Ernest Barnes, Fairbluff, N.C.; sister-in-law, Gladys Barnes, Fairbluff, N.C. Services will be at Saint Marks Lutheran Church, 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 1995 with the Rev. John M. Hawn officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. BROWN, Cecil Edward, 76, of Roanoke, died Sunday, may 28, 1995. He was a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church and retired from Ideal Laundry. BUGG, Sabrenia Gayle, 38, of Radford, passed away Saturday, May 27, 1995 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was a member of the New Hope Church of God in Christiansburg, and was an employee of Plymouth Corp. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert L. & Gladiese Montgomery. Survivors include her husband, James Marvin Bugg of Radford; one daughter, Misty Bugg; two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Roger and Susie Montgomery of Blacksburg, and James and Elizabeth Montgomery of Dublin; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. William (Joyce) Lucas, Peggy Shaw both of Radford, Mrs. Michael (Shirley) Dunford of Christiansburg, and Mrs. William (Cathie) Fowler of Pulaski. BURTON, Robert Lee, 59, of Narrows, died Monday, May 29, 1995. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on July 14, 1935 and was the son of Mrs. Dollie B. Horne of Narrows and the late Ernest Fulton Burton. he was a former Deputy Sheriff of Giles County. He is survived by his wife, Doris Spicer Burton, Narrows; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Erin Burton, Narrows; daughters, Terri B. Keith, Hillsville, Michelle B. Lindsey, Narrows; a brother, Basil Burton, Narrows; grandchildren, Bryan Pruett, Courtney Keith, Erica Sydney and Spencer Lindsey, Savanna Burton. CARPER, Fannie Mae Hoback, 90, of 1031 Crescent Street, Pulaski, died Sunday night, May 28, 1995, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born on June 30, 1904 in Tazewell, Va. (Burkes Garden), and was the daughter of the late Walter Hoback and Virginia Hoback. She was a retired employee of Sadler Hosiery Mills, Pulaski, a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Chapel, Pulaski, and she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Vernice Carper, and by one son, Donald Edward Carper. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ve rnice and Charles King, Pulaski; two sisters, Josie Crowell, Dayton, Ohio, Louise Hinkley, Radford; four brothers, Herbert Hoback, Baltimore, Md., Clinton, Hoback, Pulaski, Donald Hoback, Shawsville, and Freddie Hoback, Pulaski; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. CARTER, James William Jr., (``Jimmy""), 51, of Natural Bridge, died Sunday, May 28, 1995 in the Lewis-Gale Hospital. Mr. Carter was born April 12, 1944 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late James William Carter Sr. and Elsie Conner Carter McGowan. Jimmy worked for Crosby Trucking Services for 16 years and was their oldest driver. He was an avid race fan and fisherman and just became a member of the Monacan Indian Tribe. Surviving are his wife, Linda Jenkins Carter, Natural Bridge; two sons and daughters-in-law, James William (Jay) and Susanna Carter III, Natural Bridge Station, Troy Duane and Melinda Carter, Monterey, Tenn; step son and fiance, Shawn Kelly Hill and Fleur Burns, Natural Bridge Station; granddaughter, Kaleigh Alyssa Carter; four brothers, Wayne L. HORSLEY, Margie Wilson, 90, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 29, 1995. She was the widow of Jesse C. Horsley Sr. and was a retired machine operator at Halmode (where she was known to her co-workers as ``Granny""). Mrs. Horsley was also preceded in death by two sons, Franklin D. Horsley and Jesse C. Horsley Jr. Surviving are four daughters, Elizabeth H. Norman of Springfield, Minnie H. Clark of California, Mildred G. Horsley, Roanoke, Eloise H. Ferguson, Salem; a son, Henry C. Horsley, Roanoke; 13 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, with the Rev. Walter M. JONES, Edwin Moore, 89, of Salem, died Saturday, May 27, 1995. He was born in Floyd Co., son of the late Luther and Dolly Moore Jones. He was the widower of Ethel Hockett Jones. Mr. Jones was retired from Norfolk & Western Railway as a master electrician. He was a member of First Christian Church, independent order of Odd Fellows, Salem Lodge #100, and served in the navy during WW II.
