ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The Consumer Price Index stood at 151.9 points in April, a rise of 0.4 percent from 151.4 in March. Consumer prices are running up at an annual rate of 3.1 percent for the last 12 months and compare with 147.4 in April 1994, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The figures mean that a basket of goods and services that cost $147.40 in April 1994 would have cost $151.90 last month. The bureau said that the index for April would have been 455 points if the government had still been using 1967 as a base year instead of relying on an average for the years of 1982 to 1984 as a base of 100. That means that goods and services costing $100 in 1967 would have been priced at $455 last month.
