AROUND NEW RIVER

The secret of the Elks is out

PULASKI - Pulaski has another downtown restaurant, but not everybody knows about it.

Nancy Corbin, the new manager at the Elks Club, said the facility's restaurant is open to the public as well as to club members.

The members have their own room for meals and meetings, but the Elks Building on Main Street has other upstairs dining facilities and can serve about 65 people at a time.

Corbin said the restaurant is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with hours extended until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The club will offer special Italian dinners Saturdays, along with the traditional steak and fried chicken.

She said the Saturday dinners are an experiment and will continue if they get a good response. "We hope to start doing a Sunday buffet before long," she added.

The facilities are all on the second floor. An elevator will soon be put into service at a side entrance.

The Main Street access will get brighter lights and colors, too, she said. "We're going to paint the front entrance and make it stand out a little better."

The restaurant hosts Rotary and Kiwanis meetings and had a breakfast meeting Tuesday for Pulaski Town Council, meeting as the Finance Committee. It will be the site for a Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce mixer June 16

Corbin's mother operated a restaurant in Winchester when she was a child, and Corbin has been involved in the business ever since. She ran the Diversified Apparel Resources Inc. cafeteria in Pulaski before being asked to manage the Elks facilities.
