BRUMFIELD, Melvin Arnold, 54, of 300 Locust St., Narrows, died Monday, May 29, 1995, at his home. Born in Giles Co., Va., he was the son of Raymond O. Brumfield of Pearisburg and the late Ola Mae Poff Brumfield. Melvin was employed with Commonwealth Bolt of Rich Creek and was a member of Woodland Street Baptist Church in Narrows. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Frazier Brumfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ouida Renee Brumfield Meredith and Timothy Meredith of Narrows and Tina Brumfield Saladiner and Shawn Saladiner of Blacksburg; two granddaughters, Samantha Marie Meredith and Somer Lea Saladiner; a brother, Curtis Brumfield of Christiansburg. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1, in Fairview Cemetery at Narrows. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke, Va. Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

COLLINS, Dorothy H., 65, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 1995. She was a member of Northview United Methodist Church. She is the beloved wife of Harry F. Collins Sr.; the beloved mother and mother-in-law of Harry F. Jr and Rhonda L. Collins, Valerie C. and Steven L. Myers, all of Roanoke; the beloved grandmother of Kristin Anne Collins, Daleville, Zachary Aaron Collins, Chad Justin Myers, Brock Alexander Collins and Ryan Austin Collins, all of Roanoke; other survivors include a sister, Arlene H. Hilton, St. Albans, W.Va.; brother, Howard P. Humphries, Covington; many nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful person and will be sadly missed by all. For all of those who knew and loved her she was simply the best. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Housecall Hospice, 2167 Apperson Dr., Salem,. Va. 24153. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Northview United Methodist Church by Dr. Carl E. Savage and the Rev. W. Randolph Abshire. EARLY, Roscoe James, 82, of Elliston, died Monday, May 29, 1995, in Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Woods Early and was currently a resident of Heritage Hall Nursing Home. He is survived by four daughters, Helen Poff, Geraldine Ratcliff, both of Ironto, Reba Dudley, Eunice Dudley both of Christiansburg; three sons, Stanley Early, Christiansburg, Johnny Early, Salem, and Robert Early, Thaxton; one brother, Houston Early, Blacksburg; one sister, Minnie Murray, Richmond; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Peters and Bishop Wilbert Fairless with burial in the Sessler Cemetery, Ironto. EDWARDS, Brenda Lee McFarland, 55, of Vinton, passed away Monday, May 29, 1995. She was employed by the Veterans Administration (Department of Veterans Affairs) with 30 years service. Surviving are her husband, Woodrow W. (Jack) Edwards; son, Steven Lee Jones, San Francisco, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Jeff Turner, Roanoke; a stepdaughter, Deborah K. Brant, Los Angeles, Calif.; a stepson, Michael G. Edwards, Dublin; a sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Winston Tear, Blue Ridge; two nieces, Amy and Christa. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel Thursday, June 1, 1995, 11 a.m. with the Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. EDWARDS, Ray Sydney, 79, of Galax, died at the Veterans Hospital, Salem, Va., Monday, May 29, 1995, after many years of battling cancer. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Nancy E. Burnett, Kernersville, N.C., Betty E. and Steward Hodges, Winston-Salem, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Wade D. and Marcia Edwards, Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Ila Edwards, Inez Edwards, both of Galax; brother, Ralph Edwards, Galax; grandchildren, Cheri Burnett McCann, Kernersville, N.C., Dawn Burnett, Greensboro, N.C., Scott Hodges, Brent Hodges, Corey Hodges, all of Winston-Salem, N.C., David Edwards and Paul Edwards, both of Charleston, S.C.; and a great-granddaughter, Kristin Nicole Hattaway, Greensboro, N.C. Mr. Edwards was a lifelong member of the Hillsville V.F.W. Post #1115 and a member of the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion. FISHER, Roy Lee, 78, of Christiansburg, died Monday, May 29, 1995 in Montgomery Regional Hospital. Having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict, he received many metals including the Purple Heart. He was a life member of D.A.V. Post 29. Roy is survived by his wife, Edrie Baker Fisher; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Fisher, Christiansburg; four granddaughters and spouses, Michelle and Timothy Fisher Poff, Roanoke, Tamara and Eric Sutphin, Charlottesville, Lacinda Fisher and Megan Fisher, Christiansburg; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Fisher and India Smith, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 1995, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. Leighton Culler of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church where Roy had been a member since 1956. MELZI, Sergia U. Aymini, 92, of Lynchburg, died Monday, May 30, 1995, at her daughter's residence. Born May 9, 1903 in Casalmaggiore, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Camillo and Guisippina LaLatta Aymini. She was a retired piano and language teacher from Randolph Macon Womens College, member of the Lynchburg Italian Club, Lynchburg Spanish Club, Aliance Francais Club and served on the Commission for the Aging. She is survived by one son, Edward Robert Melzi, Garland, Texas; two daughters, Silvana Nina Dalma Davis, Roanoke, Lillian Dalma Harman Rice and her husband, James Rice, Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Lisa Davis Tarnai, Beth Harman Puchalski, Carla Ann Harman, all of Richmond, Sandra Davis Reese, Lou isa, Jackie Sergia Melzi, Ricky Melzi, both of Garland, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Puchalski, Richmond; a cousin, Robert C. Melzi, Philadelphia, PA. An entombment service will be held Friday at Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum in Richmond. REYNOLDS, Mildred Sutphin Matheny, 85, of Bellflower, Calif., formerly of Salem, went to our Lord on Sunday, May 28, 1995. She was a member of Green Hill Brethren Church of Salem for more than 50 years and has lived with her daughter in Bellflower, Calif. for the past 5 years. She is survived by her one and only daughter and husband, Mary Anne and Leslie Csertus of Bellflower, Calif.; two grandsons, Glen Braxton Minnix and wife, Christine Minnix, of Freemont, N.H., and Ronald Stephen Minnix of Bellflower, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Avril Minnix; one sister and brother-in-law, Garnet Sutphin and Stanley Wingo of Salem; one sister-in-law, Gay Matheny Jones of Troutville. SCOTT, Basil Norman, 90, died Monday, May 29, 1995, at his home in Buena Vista. Born April 3, 1905, in Buena Vista, he was the son of the late Madison Allen Scott, Jr. and Russell Campbell Scott. He was retired from Leas-McVittey Tannery and was also a carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Cora Secrist Scott. Survivors include a son, Marshall Vaden ``Buck"" Scott, Buena Vista; two sisters, Vada Tripp and Lois Anderson, both of Buena Vista; two grandchildren, Marshall Vaden Scott, Jr. and Kevin Dwayne Scott, both of Buena Vista; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Brea Scott, Buena Vista; special nurses, Leisa Hinty and Kathy Hostetter. SHARP, Jean Ballinger, 67, of 1308 Greenbrier Avenue, Pulaski, died Monday afternoon, May 29, 1995, in the Lewis-Gale Hospital, Salem, Va. She was born in Pulaski, Va, on August 19, 1927, and was the daughter of the late John Thornton Ballinger and Clara Kasey Ballinger. She was a life-time member of the First Christian Church, Pulaski. Surviving are her husband, Kent M. Sharp, Pulaski; son and daughter-in-law, Maury and Brenda Sharp, Blacksburg, special cousin, Joe E. Mabe, Bridgewater, several other cousins and family members. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Norman Witthuhn officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
