Graduated from the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy in Salem and the New River Police Academy in Pulaski County. Certified regional police academy instructor, 1988-92
WHY HE'S THE BEST CANDIDATE: "I feel that my managerial and administrative skills will be very valuable. My interaction with the people of Montgomery County, both as a deputy and as a private businessman has given me a much better understanding of what the county wants and needs. ...
"The sheriff is an administrator. I started a business from scratch four years ago. I think Montgomery County's looking for a sheriff toward the future and I know that I'm that sheriff."
KEY COMMENTS: "The Sheriff's Office needs to protect our senior citizens and our children and also be more active in setting up things like Neighborhood Watch and DARE."
Miles' goals would include looking at accepting more noncounty inmates at the jail and reinstituting the jail work programs, which provided trash pickup and cleanup services across the county. He would also like to make better use of computer capabilities so that deputies running a check on someone could get thorough information about any outstanding criminal or civil warrants pending.
"This has been a safe county," and maintaining that reputation as Montgomery County continues to grow is the biggest challenge facing the next sheriff.
"I'll be a sheriff 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year for Montgomery County."
A GOOD SHERIFF IS ONE WHO: "knows his county and knows the people in the county and knows his deputies and their concerns."
