Richmond eager to keep company
RICHMOND - RICHMOND - Mayor Leonidas B. Young said Wednesday that he favors ``a number of incentive possibilities'' to ensure that James River Corp. stays in Richmond.
Young called a news conference at City Hall to respond to a Richmond Times-Dispatch report that described James River's top-level study of a headquarters move to Connecticut and the possible closing of its riverfront headquarters in Richmond.
Young said he was assured Wednesday that the Fortune 500 company isn't leaving town.
Nonetheless, Young said he intends to meet with company officials ``to discuss what we as a city can do to assist James River with any future operation or administrative expansions and how we can ensure that those expansions take place in Richmond.''
Young said Robert C. Williams, chairman and chief executive officer of James River, ``was very supportive and has assured us that this is precisely what James River would be considering for the future.''

Keeler. ``Our earnings were first impacted late last quarter but did not improve as expected in May and are now expected to be in the break-even range for the quarter.''
