PROSECUTOR WITHDRAWS

The Henry County commonwealth's attorney has agreed to act as a special prosecutor in the case of two Roanoke sheriff's deputies accused of raping and sodomizing a woman after offering her a ride home from a bar.

Bob Bushnell said Wednesday that he agreed to handle the case at the request of Commonwealth's Attorney Donald Caldwell, who withdrew because of his close working relationship with the Roanoke Sheriff's Office.

Larry Dean Neighbors II, 25, and David Keith Bell, 24, both of Roanoke, were charged after a 25-year-old woman told police she was sexually assaulted.

The woman said two men offered to drive her home from a bar on Williamson Road May 15, then sexually assaulted her. Neighbors is charged with rape and sodomy; Bell is charged with sodomy.
