JUDGE BACKS TRUCK DRIVER'S REINSTATEMENT

He blew the whistle when he saw corruption at the landfill where he worked, because "his mama told him it was wrong to steal."

\ The Halifax County Board of Supervisors and the former county administrator - now the administrator of Henry County - commited "a veritable compost pile of corrupt acts" when they illegally fired a whistleblower who had exposed corruption at the ocunty landfill, a federal judge has ruled.

Garbage-truck driver Gerald Scearce was fired under false pretenses by former Halifax County Administrator Robert Lawler after Scearce made videotapes documenting misuse of county property, Judge William Osteen ruled in U. S. District Court in Danville. The director of public works was using county property for personal use and lending construction equipment to friends.
