WKEX broadcasts live from church

BLACKSBURG - 14-K WKEX (1430 AM) broadcasts live from Blacksburg Baptist Church Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon, as the church youth group holds its annual yard sale. Proceeds benefit the group's summer mission trip to Florida.

Dan Leary will be on hand, with help from the WKEX Happy Clown.

June 10, the station covers the annual Jurisson Memorial Run in Christiansburg. Bob Smith anchors the live broadcast starting at 8:30 a.m.

Faculty recital to be telecast

RADFORD - The June edition of the cable television program "Community Speaking" offers a Radford University faculty recital featuring classical guitarist Robert Trent.

"Community Speaking" airs Sundays, 6 p.m., Tuesdays, 5 p.m., Wednesdays, noon and Thursdays, 7 p.m., on American Cable Entertainment channel 9 in Radford, Fairlawn and Christiansburg.

VFW post to meet Thursday

RADFORD - The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Radford-Montgomery Post 776 will meet Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Members will recognize Calvin J. Hawkins at meeting. Hawkins has been elected as an officer in the VFW Sixth District.

Thrift shop plans sale Wednesday

BLACKSBURG - The YMCA Thrift Shop will have half-price sale on dated clothing for men, women and children Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4:50 p.m.

Ruritan Club picnic Saturday

ELLETT - The Ellett Valley Ruritan Club has scheduled a community picnic for Saturday.

Games will begin at 5 p.m. and dinner will be at 6 p.m. Participants should bring a dish to share, lawn chairs and serving spoons.

All current and former Ellett Valley residents are invited. The picnic will be at 1246 Misty Hills Circle, off Lusters Gate Road.
