Shuler, a Blacksburg veterinarian, will receive the nomination during a party meeting that begins at 7 p.m. Monday at the Newport Recreation Center, located off U.S. 460 in Newport.
He was first elected in 1993 to represent the 12th District, which includes Blacksburg, much of Christiansburg, the northern half of Montgomery County and eastern Giles, including the precincts of Newport, Pembroke, Eggleston and Hatfield.
Shuler is being challenged by Blacksburg Republican Larry Linkous, chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors.
