FOUNDATION ESTABLISHES SCHOLARSHIP

The Western Virginia Foundation for the Arts and Sciences, operating as Center in the Square, has announced the creation of The John W. Hancock Jr. Scholarship Award.

The $2,000 scholarship was established to recognize the contributions made by the late John W. Hancock Jr. to the establishment and operation of Center in the Square.

The scholarship is intended to encourage students who need financial assistance to attend a two- or four-year college or university in Virginia.

Applicants may be enrolled in, or intend to enroll in, a major in art, history, science, theater, museum studies or creative writing. Applicants are expected to enroll in an academic institution on a full-time basis during each academic semester of support.

Applications may be obtained by contacting the financial aid counselor/officer at Virginia high schools and colleges/universities or by calling 342-5700.

Scholarships will be awarded beginning August of 1995 for the academic year 1995-96.
