LOCAL PLAYERS SIGN

Keith Mayhew of Ferrum and VMI's David Groseclose came to terms with their respective teams after being selected in this year's baseball draft.

Mayhew, who was chosen in the 31st round by the Atlanta Braves, signed on Saturday and will report to Eugene (Ore.) of the Northwest League. The senior righthander led Ferrum with a 13-2 record while being named NCAA Division III first team All-America. The former Appomattox County standout finished with a 34-5 career record and was Ferrum's first ever three-time All-America.

Groseclose, who was selected in the 22nd round by the Colorado Rockies, also came to terms on Saturday. Groseclose, who has not been assigned to a specific team yet, led VMI with a .341 batting average and 61 hits.
