Ashley Moore went the distance to pick up the victory in the opener, an 11-1 game stopped after five innings because of the ``slaughter rule.'' Larry Bowles homered to power the offense for Rocky Mount, while Bradley Hudgins had two hits for New River.
In the second game, Bowles struck out 12 and hit another homer as the hosts won 7-3.

The East Coasters team from Blacksburg finished 46th among 182 teams in the Sport Division in the 24 Hours of Canaan mountain bike race that began at noon Saturday and was completed Sunday at the Timberline Four Seasons Resort near Davis, W.Va.
The East Coasters finished nine mountainous, 12-mile laps amid booming thunderstorms that left the course a quagmire.
Competing for the East Coasters were Chris Pohowski, Brian Bond, Ashwin Amman and Dave Heinbach. The winning team, Dirty Harry's, completed 12 laps.
