THAXTON BOY, 12, DIES IN WRECK

A 12-year-old boy from Thaxton was killed about 6 p.m. Sunday when a station wagon driven by his mother veered off the road, hit an embankment and overturned.

Randall Dale Pendleton, a student at Montvale Elementary School, died at the scene on Virginia 691 in Thaxton, according to state Trooper W.O. Coleman. He was not wearing a seatbelt, state police said.

His mother, Cyndi Ann Farley, 38, of Roanoke, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition Monday.
