First elected in 1987, Falls has twice defeated John Hopkins, the sheriff he displaced seven years ago.
In a news release announcing his re-election campaign, Falls said he would continue to fight drug offenders in Giles County and work with drug-prevention programs in county schools.
Falls said he is working with school officials to create a crime and drug informant "tip" telephone line, which is scheduled to be operational next month.
He is chairman of the county's 911 committee and serves on the board that is planning a new regional jail for several New River Valley localities. He is also vice chairman of the New River Criminal Justice Training Academy's executive board.
Falls graduated from the Virginia State Police Academy in 1968 and served as a trooper for nearly 20 years. He was stationed for much of that time in Giles County. His late father served for many years as the postmaster of Pembroke.
Falls, a resident of Eggleston, is married and has four children and three grandchildren.
Narrows resident Keith Hale, a criminal justice instructor and volunteer police officer, plans to oppose Falls in the November election.
