Brenda G. Parker, 34, was named in a murder indictment returned by a grand jury in Roanoke Circuit Court.
Parker is accused of killing Charlie V. Carter, who was found stabbed in the neck at his apartment on Eighth Street Northwest the afternoon of May 4.
Authorities believe that Carter was stabbed twice in the neck with a sharp instrument, such as a screwdriver or ice pick.
Shortly before his death, a group of people had been drinking in the apartment, authorities said. Although the relationship between Carter and Parker was unclear Monday, prosecutors said that she was among the group of people drinking in the apartment.
Parker had not been arrested Monday, following the grand jury indictment.
Carter had been released from prison shortly before his death, after serving time for murder. In 1983, he was convicted of killing his longtime girlfriend and was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
In other grand jury indictments Monday:
Calvin T. Greene was indicted on charges of robbing four banks in February and March, including one in which police say he displayed a gun while in the drive-through lane and demanded cash from the teller.
Bobby Nazrini, owner of the Hype City clothing store on Williamson Road, was indicted on charges of firing a gun at a customer who came to his store Feb. 4 looking for a refund on a pair of pants that were too big.
