ANDERSON, Doreen Lea, 62, of Radford, died Sunday, June 4, 1995, at her home. Surviving are her husband, Kenneth E. Anderson; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Terri Anderson, Oak Harbor, Wash.; a son, Craig Anderson, Radford; her mother, Mabel Thompson Lea, England; a brother, Edward C. Lea, England; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles W. and Jennifer Lea, England; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lewis and Edith Anderson, Dublin; a sister-in-law, Hilda Anderson Peake, Chilhowie; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Frances Anderson Rankin and Harold Rankin, Ocala, Fla.; a grandson, Nathan Lea Anderson, Oak Harbor, Wash. A private memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at the St. Frances Anglican Church, Blacksburg, with Father W. C. Shields officiating. BAIRD, James D., (``Jimmy""), 33, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, June 4, 1995 at 1:30 p.m. following a long illness with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul (Lynn) Baird. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Tina M. Baird; one son, Jamie Baird, of Salem; one stepdaughter, Melissa Allanson of Roanoke; also surviving is his mother, Frances Baird of Salem; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Dawn Baird of Vinton; two sisters and brother-in-law, Debbie and Paul Bandy of Elliston, Brenda Baird of Salem. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at Penn Forest Church of God, 4429 Buck Mountain Road. Pastor Sam Belisle and Pastor Tony Barnes will officiate. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday where the family will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The family will accept flowers however, any one wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to Tina M. BARBER, Frances Regina, 71, of Roanoke, died Sunday, June 4, 1995. Surviving include her sons, Carlton W. Ashby and William E. Wheeling both of Roanoke; daughters and sons-in -law, Mildred L. and Bobby Ferguson, Roanoke, Regina L. Sabatinos, Christiansburg, Renee A. and Otis Crook, Hardy, Connie S. and Ralph Offield, Saltville; brothers and sister, James D. Peden, Roanoke, Richard M. Peden, Florida, and Helen V. Wade, Roanoke; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 1995, with the Rev. James O'Brien and the Rev. Patricia Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

BURLEY, Samuel Henry, 82, of Covington, died Monday, June 5, 1995. Arrangements by Loving Funeral Home.

CALDWELL, Robert Clark, 61, of Moneta, formerly of Fairfax, died Monday, May 29, 1995, in Roanoke, after a six month battle with liver cancer. Mr. Caldwell was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps, having served twenty years including two tours of duty in Vietnam. He earned a Bronze Star and Navy Commendation Medal for his service in Vietnam. Upon retiring from the Marine Corps in 1975, Mr. Caldwell became a defense contractor, and served as Vice President for the Tactical Systems Division at Advanced Technology, Inc. He retired in 1988 and moved to Smith Mountain Lake, Va. Mr. Caldwell graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1955 and also attended the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Beverly (Locker) Caldwell; two daughters, Ju lie Hancock of Floyd, Victoria Caldwell of Beverly, Mass.; a son, Robert C. Caldwell Jr. of Charlottesville; his mother Alma Caldwell of Los Gatos, Calif.; his sister, Nola Wicks of San Jose, Calif; three grandsons. Private Military Honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

HANCOCK, Robert J., 66, of New Castle, died Monday, June 5, 1995 in a Salem hospital. He is preceded in death by one son, Eric Eugene Hancock. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Sloss Hancock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Chester and Sharon Hancock, and Clyde Murray and Lisa Hancock; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Christopher Holtman, all of New Castle; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann and Danielle Nicole Holtman; one grandson, Joshua Levi Hancock; sisters, Nellie Carper, and Sarah Huffman; several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boitnott Funeral Home, with interment in Huffman Memorial Park. HOWELL, Hylton E. Sr., 84, of Salem, died Monday, June 5, 1995 at Friendship Manor. He was born in Stuart, Va. July 16, 1910, son of Charles F. and Laura Hylton Howell, a real estate broker and auctioneer from 1953 until 1989. Surviving is a son, Hylton E. Howell Jr. and wife Betty, of Salem; granddaughter, Anne M. Dowdy; three great-granddaughters, Shae Dowdy, Cheri Dowdy, Adelia Overstreet; special nieces, Christine and Mickey Benton, both of Eden, N.C. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at 12 noon in the Lotz Salem Chapel, with Roy Miller officiating. Entombment will be in Sherwood Chapel Garden Mausoleum. JIMERSON, Rev. Norman C., (``Jim""), 72, of West Barnstable, Mass., formerly of Roanoke, died Tuesday, May 30, 1995. Rev. Jimerson devoted his life to promoting peace and justice. In 1981, he moved from West Barnstable, Mass., to Roanoke, to become co-director of the Plowshare Peace Education Center. In 1984, he became a consultant to the World Peacemakers organization in Washington, D.C. and in 1986 served as director of pastoral services for the Washington City Church of the Brethren. Rev. Jimerson is survived by his wife, Melva (Brooks) Jimerson, West Barnstabl e, Mass.; five children; one brother; one sister; three grandchildren. MCDANIEL, Lois, Stump, 84, of Salem, died Sunday in the Salem Hospital. She was preceded in death by two sons Roy Stump, Jr. and Robert W. Stump. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law. Ronnie W. and Carolyn Stump; Calvin Carrey Stump of Salem; two brothers, Roy Mayhew, and Harry Mayhew, both of Bedford; two daughter- in -laws, Laura Stump Jones of Moneta and Sandra Stump Boothe of Salem. Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 7, at 2 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Michael Slaughter officiating. MITCHELL, Jesse Hairston, 79, of Rocky Mount, died Monday, June 5, 1995, at his home. He was the son of the late Otis Tucker and Clara Geneva Scott Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his sons, Kenneth and Dexter Mitchell and is survived by his wife, Mildred Clemmer Mitchell; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Peggy Mitchell; grandsons, Scott, Warren, Adam and Matthew Mitchell ; granddaughters, Amy Mitchell and Laura Bondurant; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ola Hogan and Mary Ayers of Roanoke. NELSON, Alfred W., 62, of Hampton, died Sunday, June 4, 1995. A native of Roanoke, he had been a Peninsula resident for the past 15 years. He was general manager for Rouse Enterprises. He was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church in Roanoke, past president of Cave Spring Lions Club, and a member of B. P. O. E. Survivors include his wife, Joanne M. Nelson; one son, Daniel William Nelson of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters, Cindy N. Stowe and Cathy N. Curtis, both of Hampton; three sisters, Frances Gray of Richmond, Dottie Overstreet and May Goins, both of Roanoke; and six grandchildren, Nicole and Brittany Nelson, Dusty and Teeny Stowe and Ryan and Cassandra Curtis. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke, by the Rev. Sidney L. PAULSON, Alice Elizabeth Berg, (``Betty""), 62, of Route 1, Draper, died Sunday, June 4, 1995, in the Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. Betty was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was the daughter of Alice M. and Axel Yngve Berg. She graduated from the Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing to become a registered nurse. In 1956, Betty earned a BS degree in Nursing Education at Columbia University. Her Masters Degree was awarded at VPI & SU. Betty taught nursing at the Pulaski Hospital on Randolph Avenue, from 1956 to 1958. She retired as a Professor of Nursing at Wytheville Community College in 1992 after teaching there for 22 years. Betty gave encouragement to everyone she encountered. Her philosophy of life was that of hope and trust in God to guide our lives in a right direction. She imbued this philosophy in her family and students with humor and dedication. She was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pulaski for 35 years, serving on many committees and singing in the choir. She volunteered post retirement nursing services to the Pulaski Free Clinic. Betty, a loving wife and mother, is survived by her husband, Walter H. Paulson, Pulaski; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Bill Lacy, Radford; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Anne Paulson, Durham, N.C., Martin and Ann Marie Paulson, Pulaski; four grandchildren, Seth Lacy, Abigail Lacy, Courtney Paulson and Brigitta Paulson; mother Alice Mae Berg, Brooklyn, N.Y.; sister, Eleanor Nelson, Jamesville, N.Y.; brother, Arthur Berg, Reading, Mass. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church, Pulaski, with the Rev. John McCandlish and the Rev. Steven Ridenhour officiating. PENDLETON, Randall Dale, 12, of Thaxton, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 4, 1995, as a result of an automobile accident. Surviving are his father and stepmother, Randall (Bill) and Brenda Lee Pendleton, Thaxton; mother and stepfather, Cynthia and Tony Farley, Roanoke; brother, Jody William Pendleton; stepbrother, Jamie Ray Carter; stepsister, Keisha Marie Carter; grandparents, Olin A. and Polly J.
