Karate camp in Radford

The Radford Community Hospital Wellness Center and New River Martial Arts are co-sponsoring a karate kids' summer camp for children ages 6-10.

Three two-week sessions will use martial arts activities, plus Japanese art and calligraphy, to teach life skills and healthy behaviors. The first camp session, July 10-21, will focus on leadership, organization and teamwork.

"Martial Arts for Peace," the second camp, July 24-Aug. 4, will devote time to understanding roots of violent conflict and solving problems in a peaceful manner.

The third camp, Aug. 7-18, develops self-reliance in children ages 8-10 who have karate experience with challenging mental and physical exercises.

Each two-week session costs $170, which includes uniforms and snacks. Discounts apply to Wellness Center members.
