Gov. George Allen and Susan Allen put in a 14-hour day Tuesday, meeting with British officials, tourism groups and attending a reception at the U.S. Embassy.
The governor also met with a telecommunications company that may be considering expanding its operations in Virginia.
Allen met privately with former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the morning and formally kicked off the mission at a luncheon for tourist operators.
``Our purpose is to spread the word that Virginia is open for business and that we appreciate the jobs that these companies have created and the investments they made in our state,'' Allen said.
