SUSPECT CHARGED WITH FELONIES

The suspect in the videotaped beating of a convenience store clerk faces two felony charges in the attack, which occurred as store patrons stood by.

Lantz Day, 17, of Locust Grove will be tried as an adult on charges of malicious wounding and attempted robbery. He is accused of punching Charlotte Cummins after entering a 7-Eleven store April 3.

Day appeared Thursday in Fredericksburg General District Court.

The videotape of the beating was picked up by news organizations and broadcast nationwide.

Day was arrested in Orange County the next night on an unrelated charge of possessing a stolen motorcycle. He faces a maximum penalty of 30 years on the two charges.
