BARTER'S STAGE II OPENS SEASON WITH `SWEET DELIVERANCE'

"Sweet Deliverance," a fast-moving and offbeat comedy by Eric Houston, is the first play of the season for Barter's Stage II.

It opened Thursday at Barter's second stage theater and will play through July 2.

Inspired by a court case, it shows a nurse caught up in events that bring her unexpected fame and fortune, not unlike the curious rise to fame of people like John Bobbitt and Joey Buttafucco.

"At one point in the play, [the character] says, 'For one crazy moment I completely lost it and thought we had freedom of choice,'" said Barter Artistic Director Richard Rose. "That line zeroes right in on this comedy."

The cast includes Hana Kline as the nurse, Randall Rapstine and Nicholas Piper.

The play is performed at night Thursday through Tuesday, and on Saturday afternoons. Reservations and performance times are available by calling 1-800-368-3240.
