ANOTHER WASHOUT AT FCS

Franklin County Speedway racing was rained out Saturday night for the fourth time this season.

The Star City Auto Parts/Wix Filters race that was scheduled for Saturday night at the Callaway track will be rescheduled. All ticket stubs for Saturday's race and the June 3 race, which also was rained out, will be honored June 17 at the Nelson Pontiac-GMC Trucks/B99 race.

In other sports in the region:

The Southwest Aquatic Team of Roanoke was eighth among 28 squads after the first day of the Bowling Green (Ohio) Summer Invitational swim meet.

James Wolfle led the way with some strong performances in the open division. Wolfle finished third in the 50-meter freestyle, fourth in the 100 butterfly, fifth in the 100 backstroke and sixth in the 200 individual medley.

Braden White was sixth in the 50 freestyle in the 11- and 12-year-old division and swam the leadoff leg on two relay teams that placed - the second-place 200 medley in the 11-12 division and the fourth-place 400 medley in the open division. Also on the 200 medley relay team were Charles Steeves, Norbert Huber and David Hrinesmith, while Wolfle, Huber and David Szabo completed the 400 squad.

The meet concludes today.

Ben Nielsen and Ed Shephard, both of Roanoke, finished second in their respective events at the U.S. Cycling Federation-sanctioned Virginia State Time Trial in Sussex.

Nielsen finished second in the 12-mile Junior competition in 29 minutes, 34 seconds. Shephard was second in the Category 2 25-mile time trial in 56:20.
