NEW TO THE VALLEY

THE HENDERSON GROUP/VISUAL COMMUNICATORS

Owner: Robert Henderson

Location: 724 Prospect Ave., Pulaski

Phone: 994-9050

Hours: By appointment

Mission: Henderson offers advertising services to meet each client's needs. "It's a total image that you try to design," he said. "In doing marketing, we ask what a client has to offer, to whom it is to be offered, and what results do we expect?"

Once, advertising businesses were centered in cities like New York. "With the electronic highway," Henderson said, "I have access to the finest talent in the United States from Pulaski."

Products and services: Creative visual marketing, which includes brochures (like the one recently completed for the town of Pulaski), television, audio or video, and logo and package design.

"What we wanted to do for Pulaski was help them clarify their identity. It is not just a brochure, it's a marketing tool," Henderson said. "Our objective was to provide the town and county with a way to strut their stuff."

An experienced photographer, Henderson took the pictures for the brochure, including one of Civil War re-enactors in Pulaski County. To get that one, he had to dress in a wool Union uniform on a hot summer day, because nonuniformed people were not allowed on the field. He waded through poison ivy and hornets' nests to get the shots he wanted.

Fees: Potential clients are given a quote after the proposed job is studied.

Owner's bio:: Henderson earned a degree in advertising design from the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla. He served as a combat photographer with the U.S. Army in Vietnam during 1967-68 and battalion photographer in Nuremberg, West Germany, during 1968-69. He worked previously as corporate design director for Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, N.C., and as senior art director for Roanoke's Maddox Agency as well as operating several companies of his own before coming to Pulaski.

With Maddox, he won awards for visual communications he produced for Lewis-Gale Hospital, Martha Washington Inn, Dominion Investment Banking and other clients.
